Computer Basics is designed for first time computer users or those who need a refresher on the very basics of how to use a computer. Powering on, using a mouse, opening programs, saving files, closing programs, shutting down.

Internet Basics, Part I - Thursday, 23 Jan. 2014, 3 - 4:30 p.m. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

Internet Basics is designed for those who already have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer, but have limited or no internet experience. Opening an Internet browser, performing a simple search, looking at results, finding information on a webpage, and basic Internet navigation.

Internet Basics, Part II - Thursday, 13 Feb. 2014, 3 - 4:30 p.m. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

Internet Basics is designed for those who already have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer, but have limited or no internet experience. In part two we will be taking a closer look at websites, options within the browser, and printing. Practice exercises included.

Beginning E-Mail - Thursday, 20 Feb. 2014, 3 - 4:30 p.m. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

Beginning E-Mail is designed for those who are new to e-mail.  If you do not have an e-mail account but would like one you may still attend, we just ask that you either sign-up for an account ahead of time or come to the class half an hour early (3:00 p.m.) and we can help you get your account created.  Those who already have been using e-mail, but do not know how to use it could also benefit from this class.  STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR USERNAME AND PASSWORD FOR THEIR E-MAIL ACCOUNT. 

Students should already have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer, the Internet, and have created an account before the class starts at 3:30 p.m. 

Class Covers: Creating an e-mail account, passwords, sending and receiving messages, deleting e-mail, opening/downloading attachments, sending attachments, and printing, logging in and logging out.  In this class we will be using Yahoo! Mail.

Word Processing Basics - Thursday, 27 Feb. 2014, 3 - 4:30 p.m. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

Learn how to use functions common to most word processing programs. During class we will be using Open Office, which is a word processing program accessible as a free download. Learn how to create a document, change fonts, text sizes and various other formatting features. What you learn in this class using Open Office can be applied to word processing programs such as Word and Word Perfect as well.

A basic knowledge of computer usage is recommended.

Files and Folders: Organizing and Finding Files on Your Computer - Thursday, 13 Mar. 2014, 3 - 4:30 p.m. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

Learn how to use create, rename, move, and get files to folders. We'll also look at ways to help you try to find files on your computer using a search function.

A basic knowledge of computer usage is recommended.

How To Series:OverDrive

OverDrive:eBooks and Downloadable Audiobooks -Sign-up for the Wait List at theCirculation Desk to be notified when the next class is scheduled. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

Wireless laptops and/or bring your own device. This class is designed for those who already have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer and would like to learn how to use the eBooks and downloadable audiobooks on OverDrive.  If you have a library card you already have an OverDrive account.  We’ll show you how to access it and show you how to browse titles, download your eBooks and Audiobooks and put them on your eReader (we’ll be using a Sony Reader for class) or iPod/MP3 player.  Participants who have iPods or MP3 players may bring them to class. Participants should already have an e-mail account and a Brigham City Library account before signing up for this service. (Get the handout now and get started! - handout to be updated.)

Getting Started on Facebook - Sign-up for the Wait List at the Circulation Desk to be notified when the next class is scheduled. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

This class is designed for those who are relatively new to Facebook – those who do not yet have an account or those who have an account, but need help finding out how to use it. We’ll look at privacy settings, how to post different types of things, how to make comments, send messages, find and add friends, find and join groups and more. All students must already have an e-mail account in order to get a Facebook account. Students who do not yet have a Facebook account are asked to come early (3:00 p.m.) and bring their e-mail address. Student who already have an account must bring their username and password.

STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR BCPL LIBRAY CARD AND THEIR E-MAIL ADDRESS.

Starting Your Own Blog - Not Currently Scheduled - Sign-up for the Wait List at the Circulation Desk to be notified when the next class is scheduled. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

This class is designed for those who would like to start a blog, but need help finding out how. We’ll help you create your blog; show you how to design the layout and appearance of your blog; look at the tools used in posting to your blog—including adding pictures; how to manage comments; and introduce you to some free online tools to enhance your blog. We will be creating our blogs on Blogger so students will need a Google account before class starts. If you do not have one and need help getting one please come to class 30 minutes early (3:00 p.m.) or make arrangements with Susan or Elizabeth on a day that is good for you prior to class. Be sure to bring the username and password for your Google account and come with an idea of what you’d like to call your blog and what you’d like to write about on it.

One Click Audio: Downloadable Audiobooks - Not Currently Scheduled - Sign-up for the Wait List at the Circulation Desk to be notified when the next class is scheduled. (Library Instructor, Sign-up limit: 12 students)

This class is designed for those who already have a basic knowledge of how to use a computer and would like to learn how to use the audiobooks on One Click Audio.  If you don’t already have a One Click Audio account, we’ll walk you through the process of getting one during class and show you how to browse titles, download your Audiobooks and put them on your iPod/MP3 player.  Participants who have iPods or MP3 players may bring them to class.  Participants should already have an e-mail account before signing up for this service.
